GE – Wilge School Initiative – 2016
Having undertaken the development of the Kusile Powerplant, GE and Eskom collaborated on the biggest CSI project they’d embarked on to date. Recognising the real need to upgrade schools in the area, the companies decided to build a new school to give back to the local community.
Wilge School is state-of-the art and self sustaining, featuring solar power, water tanks, vegetable gardens to feed the learners and windows that were specially designed to regulate the temperature in the classrooms.
We came up with a warm and touching way to tell the marvellous story of this Kusile legacy project, documenting the building of the school and the benefits to the community by following the life of a young boy in the area. We told his story through his daily challenges, culminating in how the new school has changed his life.
To show the need for the school in the area, cover the building process and show the resulting benefits from the new school for the learners and the broader community.
