CCBSA Schools Recycling Overview Video – 2018
Every year Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) invites primary and high schools in rural and/or disadvantaged areas to participate in the Schools Recycling Programme which culminates in a prizegiving ceremony where cash prizes are awarded.
Participating schools collect post-consumer waste and their collections are recorded. The schools who collect the most for recycling are then identified and visited by CCBSA and a team of judges.
The adjudication criteria include how learners have incorporated recycling in their daily lives, innovative and creative ideas that they’ve used to upcycle and what the school is doing to include recycling into the curriculum.
The top schools win cash prizes and the money is used to improve the schools’ infrastructure. Aside from providing jobs for collectors and schools recycling representatives, the programme educates learners on the importance of recycling and converts them into recycling ambassadors: they take what they’ve learnt home to their communities and families, teaching the importance of recycling and looking after our environment.
